The Inspiration behind 1617 Goons Wear Clothing?

Being a huge fan of the likes of Supreme, BAPE, and Adidas from a very young age made me have a keen interest on the artistic side of how they really make their stuff. I grew up in a household where I couldn’t afford to own an Adidas T-shirt or a Supreme cap, so I had to just draw for example an Adidas T-shirt on a piece of paper or something on my plain T-shirts with my own design, I could add a few stuff on the design like changing the details for example. This helped develop artistic skills and I fell more in love with the science of clothes making. In the year 2014, I managed to drop my first official work, I did like 60 T-shirts for matriculants, and people begged for more. Then In 2015, I became a head designer of a certain streetwear brand, only worked for a year then in 2016 I decided to start my own streetwear brand which is 1617 Goons Wear Clothing.

How has the journey been thus far?
It hasn’t been that bad since each and every business has its best times and worst times.
I can say that there are some times where I wanted to quit but I didn’t.
The entrepreneurship journey ain’t for the faint-hearted. Because now and then you can get double-crossed or people will try to double-cross you.
I have been double-crossed by people I looked up to and that broke my heart but I had to keep going. I lost a lot of money due to lack of some information of the things I was doing but I didn’t quit,
I had to keep going because a lot of people look up to me so if I quit I will be letting them down. Each and every day the journey is getting better and more fun. Clothing and Apparel brands are popping up on a weekly basis in the townships,

What separates 1617 Goons Wear Clothing from the rest of the chasing pack?
First of all our style is different, our mission and vision are to fuse Music and Fashion since they go hand in hand. Since each and every brand these days is more focused on dropping basic stuff and getting their brands endorsed by celebrities.
Our brand is more focused on dropping the hottest stuff in the streets, we are all about the people. We are not trying to sell popularity,
but garments which will you make feel good about yourself when you wear them. Fashion, Street Culture, and Music is what 1617 Goons Wear Clothing focuses on

How has the combination of these three being taken up by the general public?
I can say people are now getting the bigger picture of what we are trying to do, which is fusing music, fashion and street culture since they all go hand in hand.
Back in 2016, they didn’t really understand what we were all about when we dropped our first hip-hop project.
And please elaborate on the music part of the brand
Basically, we drop different genres of music since our fans listen to different genres.
We used to host two shows, one was a Live Facebook show called “1617 Goons Live Facebook Sessions” and it was hosted on Thursdays and Fridays.
It was a House music show which was hosted at different locations.The second one is a podcast called “1617 Goons Crib Tapes” which is also a house music show in which we drop mixtapes of different deejays, so far we have dropped more than 10 mixes and the response from all the tapes is awesome.
We also drop hip-hop compilation projects, so far we have dropped two projects. The hip-hop projects had some RnB type of songs,
this was because we wanted our fans we listen to RnB to also listen to the projects. 1617 Goons Facebook Live Session show was put on hold due to some technicalities, but we will do it again soon.

What are 1617 Goons Wear Clothing future plans, what’s on the Pipeline?
We got too many things on the pipeline, but the first thing we want to do is to finish building our two studios( A Sewing Studio and Music Studio), we only left with doing the final touches then we are good to go, we also have two or 3 big collaborations lined up, we are also bringing back the Live Sessions soon and this time around they will be more awesome, we want to also do more competitions, host more Goons Link Ups, we got so much in store for the streets.
